Star Power recently provided a comprehensive temporary power solution to support the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) during a planned power shutdown, ensuring critical facilities remained operational throughout the scheduled works.
The project required a reliable and resilient power infrastructure to maintain essential operations, including specialist freezer storage containing invaluable glacier core samples that preserve a record of Earth’s climate history spanning more than one million years.
To support the planned outage, Star Power supplied and installed:
Working closely with the BAS team, Star Power designed and delivered a temporary power setup that kept critical systems running while permanent electrical works were undertaken.
The project highlights the importance of careful planning and dependable temporary power solutions when organisations cannot afford disruption to vital operations. For BAS, maintaining power was essential to safeguarding years of scientific research and ensuring the integrity of irreplaceable environmental samples.
Robbie Scott, Aquarium Modernisation Project Manager at the British Antarctic Survey, commented:
“It was an absolute pleasure to work with such a well-experienced and connected team.
The daunting task of shutting down the site and transferring operations onto generators was made much easier thanks to a very experienced and competent team. Our 1.2 million-year-old ice remains as ice.
Thank you, Star Power.”
Neil Rider, Depot Manager, said:
“We were proud to support the British Antarctic Survey during this planned power shutdown. Projects like this demonstrate the critical role temporary power can play in protecting important facilities and research. Our team worked closely with BAS to ensure a seamless transition and reliable power supply throughout the works.”
With a nationwide fleet of generators, power distribution equipment and experienced engineers, Star Power supports planned shutdowns, infrastructure upgrades and critical continuity projects across a wide range of sectors.
