Temporary power specialist Star Power is helping its customer go green by supplying generators that can run on HVO fuel and providing an HVO fuel service.
The company is determined to reduce its carbon footprint and help clients do the same by using the more eco-friendly fuels.
HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) is a fossil-free, paraffinic fuel made from waste fats and vegetable oils which are transformed into biofuel by hydrogenation.
It is a drop-in replacement for gas oil and can be used in all diesel engines with no loss of performance. HVO can also be safely mixed with diesel, if necessary.
Drive down carbon footprint
Star Power’s Head of Power, Paul Ridley, said: “Offering an HVO fuel service is a key element of our strategy of being a leader in sustainability and low carbon solutions in the temporary power market.
“We already provide the industry’s best and most fuel-efficient Stage V generators, supported by battery packs and hybrid generator systems that make temporary power as sustainable and low-carbon as possible with current technology.
“Exchanging diesel with HVO fuel is another step we can offer customers who want to drive down their carbon footprint still further and reduce risks caused by particulates from diesel engines.”
Reduce carbon and NO emissions
Using HVO fuels can significantly reduce operational carbon footprints, contributing to NetZero by 2050 commitments.
As well as significantly reducing CO2 emissions, compared with diesel, HVO delivers a 30% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions.
It also generates up to 86% less particulate matter, which can cause asthma and heart and lung disease, including cancer.
HVO biodegrades within 51 days and is odourless, which makes it ideal to use in generators in environments close to public spaces, for example at events.
The HVO fuel supplied by Star Power is cleaner than both diesel and FAME (fatty acid methyl ester) biodiesel.
It complies with EN15940 and ASTM D97 5 and is ISCC-approved (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification).
Also, unlike biodiesel, HVO does not deteriorate over time and can be used at temperature extremes.
Enhanced fuel management service
The HVO fuel offer is incorporated in Star Power’s already impressive fuel management service.
The company has a fuel bowser hire service with a range options, including: static and towable fuel bowsers; FuelPods; and fuel cubes. All can be delivered to sites full of HVO fuel.
Star Power also provides an HVO fuel management service, with remote monitoring of fuel levels and topping up of HVO fuel, as required.
Fuel bowers available for hire include: a 105 litre diesel easy cube; 1,000 litres and 5,000 litres static fuel bowsers; 1,000 litres and 2,000 litres road towable bowsers; and lockable FuelPod containerised fuel units.
